Watch here for further details of this year's Writer-in-Residence.
Our first ever Writer-in-Residence, Davey Spens, spent six months during 2008 based in Costa stores around the world whilst completing his first novel. He created a series of short stories entitled Frothy Tales, which we published here on Costabookawards.co.uk. Frothy Tales were quirky fictional observations on the Costa customers that he encountered during his residency. Click on the titles below to read each download.

About Davey Spens, Writer-in-Residence 2008
Davey was born in Winchester in 1980 and went to school in Southampton. He read Sociology and Theology at Durham University and wrote and produced two radio shows for the local radio station. After graduating, he anchored a station in Johannesburg for nine months before deciding he was sick of waking up to his own voice mispronouncing Zulu. He spent a year at Falmouth Arts College studying for a Broadcast TV Postgraduate, passed with a distinction, and his short film Shadowboxer was selected for the London Film Festival. In 2004 he joined AMV BBDO, the UK's largest advertising agency, where he was based for four years, creating award-winning campaigns for Pepsico and the National Lottery, amongst many others. In 2007 he was named one of Marketing Week's Rising Stars. He was commissioned to write an original screenplay for a Los Angeles film company, and is currently completing his first novel with a grant from the Arts Council. In March he was appointed the first Costa Writer-in- Residence. Davey lives and works in London and is represented by Jonathan Conway for Mulcahy and Viney. He has a website at www.daveyspens.com.
